As we might have guessed, the Nvidia conference was an opportunity to discover the new generation of Ada Lovelace cards. Here are the first details.
Once again, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage to pull a new next-gen GeForce graphics card out of the bag. Ada Lovelace, the 3rd generation of the RTX architecture, is based on a chip with 76 billion transistors engraved in 4 nm by TSMC. So Nvidia promises 90 TFLOPs, 200 RT FLOPs and 1400 Tensor FLOPs.
DLSS 3.0 as a new technology
Beyond the cards, Huang began showcasing NVIDIA DLSS 3 technology, the next generation of Deep Learning Super Sampling. This AI-powered technology can generate frames to massively speed up gameplay. It overcomes CPU performance limitations in games by enabling the GPU to generate frames independently. In short, a new course is to come to increase the framerate a little more. This technology will be integrated into the most popular game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine and has received support from many leading game developers, with more than 35 games and applications to follow.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080, stars of the conference
We don’t have many details at the moment, but the first card to be revealed is the RTX 4090. It’s advertised as being 2x to 4x faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, depending on the game. It will be available on October 12 for $1600. Nevertheless, it is necessary that it is not sold out.
Obviously, these are Nvidia’s words, but it’s presented as the world’s fastest gaming GPU. In RTX games, the RTX 4090 with DLSS 3 is up to 4x faster than the last-gen RTX 3090 Ti with DLSS 2.
Nvidia also announced the RTX 4080, which will be launched in two configurations. The RTX 4080 16GB with 9728 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR6X memory. With DLSS 3, it’s twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in current games and more powerful than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The other model is the RTX 4080 12GB with 7680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory. With DLSS 3, it’s faster than the RTX 3090 Ti.
Both RTX 4080 configurations will be available in November with prices starting at $1199 and $899, respectively.
To sum up :
- NVIDIA RTX 4090 : Between 2 and 4 times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. $1,600 as of October 12th
- RTX4080 : 2x faster than RTX 3080 Ti and more powerful than RTX 3090 Ti. It comes in a 12GB version for $899 and a 16GB version for $1199.
