The digital CES 2021, which stands for Consumer Electronics Show, is currently in full swing. After Intel yesterday, AMD and Nvidia were among the major semiconductor manufacturers with their keynotes. Both companies concentrate very strongly on processors and graphics accelerators for notebooks. Despite all of that, there is also something for desktop gamers.
So had Nvidia announced the Geforce RTX 3060 and thus promises full entry-level performance that should even be enough to display Cyberpunk 2077 including ray tracing with a little more than 60 frames per second – but with activated DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling).

What do we know about the RTX 3060?
The loudest argument of the RTX 3060 is the very generous GDDR6 video memory of 12.0 GB. Especially when you consider that the initially smallest ampere graphics card should primarily be designed for gaming in Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels).

In addition to the amount of video memory, the clock rate and memory interface are particularly interesting. The latter is relatively narrow at 192 bits, while the base and boost clocks are quite impressive at 1.32 and 1.78 GHz, respectively.
The number of computing cores, on the other hand, has dropped massively compared to the RTX 3060 Ti, which will be clearly noticeable in terms of performance despite the good clock rates.
How is the performance of the RTX 3060 to be assessed?
In view of what is known so far and the presentation slides from Nvidia (see picture below), we place the RTX 3060 at roughly the level of an RTX 2070 Super up to a maximum of an RTX 2080.
What does the RTX 3060 cost and when is it coming?
The RTX 3060 should appear at the end of February. At 319 dollars, the price definitely pleases, even if the difficult situation on the graphics card market of late means that we will be offered the card at higher prices on the street.
