NVIDIA is going to impose a playing time limit on its game streaming service GeForce NOW in the future – that will probably make subscribers less happy.
NVIDIA is slightly adjusting the memberships of its cloud gaming service GeForce NOW. The Priority membership will now be called the Performance membership, in addition to which there will also still be the Ultimate membership. In the future, Performance members will also be offered a 1440p resolution instead of the previous 1080p limitation, as well as ultrawide support.
However, the whole thing also has a clear catch: starting next year 2025, NVIDIA will also be implementing a monthly playing time limit. Both Performance and Ultimate members can then only play for 100 hours per month via GeForce NOW, with which NVIDIA wants to continue to ensure excellent quality and the best speed in the service. This step should also shorten waiting times.
There are further restrictions on playing time: with the Performance subscription this is limited to 6 hours a day, with an Ultimate subscription it is limited to 8 hours of playing time. Longer sessions in one day are then no longer possible. For the sake of completeness: Free users with the basic subscription can play for a maximum of one hour a day, financed by advertising, and have the longest waiting times.
As for the monthly limit, NVIDIA emphasizes that the 100-hour cap is sufficient for 94 percent of the service’s users. In addition, up to 15 hours of unused playing time can be carried over into the next month. Subscribers can still have a maximum playing time credit of 115 hours per month; So you won’t be able to save for several months.
If you want to exceed the limit of 100 hours per month, you can do so, but you will then have to pay additional money. With the Performance subscription, 15 hours more playing time costs $2.99, while with the Ultimate subscription you pay a full $5.99 for 15 more hours.
Existing customers may not be affected by this step until 2026, because all actively paying customers until December 31, 2024 will receive an extension of the upper limit until January 2026 if they continue their membership and will also be able to play unlimitedly in 2025.
