The limited Star Wars prequel Kenobi from 2022 ends after just six episodes. Even if the prospect of a second season looks rather poor, the main actor Ewan McGregor is not giving up hope and is now turning to his fans.
“Can everyone please write Disney?”
During the MegaCon 2024 in Orlando, which took place from February 1st to 4th, McGregor expressed his satisfaction with the series, which was initially planned as a film, in an interview about his Star Wars role as Obi-Wan Kenobi:
The series was originally intended to be a film. I often thought to myself: Should it have been a film? But I think it’s kind of great that it became a series. The plot is therefore much longer. Hopefully this will make it more satisfying. This gave us more time to weave a story.
He then adds that he hopes for a second season and humorously turns to fans of the Star Wars franchise for support: “Can everyone please write Disney?”
But although the audience applauds enthusiastically and a sequel has already been officially discussed by Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, not all fans think a second Kenobi series is likely. You can see the trailer for the first season right here:

Second season for Kenobi unlikely
Even the Obiwan actor Ewan McGregor said in a recent one Interview mit Variety
He is probably referring to the currently ongoing cinema projects surrounding The Mandalorian & Grogu and Rey, as well as planned series such as the second Ahsoka season.
But also on Reddit The community is rather pessimistic about a sequel.
This is what the user writes BrewtalDoom, that the only requirement for its own series was to bring back Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He thinks the story wasn’t compelling enough for Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi teacher.
A similar opinion also shares pimpsouluk:
They’ve already completely exhausted themselves with the first season and haven’t created a new path. Personally, I love Ewan in his role as Obi, but I can’t think of another story that would captivate audiences. I’m just glad we got to see him again.
Ultimately, this was the Kenobi prequel planned as a limited series from the start. It remains to be seen whether Ewan McGregor will be able to slip into his legendary role as Obi-Wan Kenobi again.
If you’ve seen Kenobi, what did you think of the series? Does it deserve a second season? If the prequel to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story actually gets a sequel, what storyline would you like to see? Are you otherwise excited about another Lucasfilm project currently in production? Feel free to write us your thoughts in the comments!
