With weapons weaker than ever in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Octoroks are even more useful than in Breath of the Wild.
Spoilers ahead!
If you’ve been digging into Tears of Kingdoms in the past week, you probably know that Hyrule’s weapons aren’t all that hot. That nasty murky stuff is causing them to rot, and there’s no way to fix them. In Breath of the Wild, Octoroks can clean any rusty weapons you have if they suck up, and in Tears of the Kingdom, they do something even more useful than that: they restore your weapons to full health state.
As Tristan Cooper shared on Twitter (thanks to GamesRadar) Octoroks are back (and still annoying), but their suction is very useful. In the video Cooper shared, you can see him throw a nearly broken spear into Octoroks’ mouth. When it spits back, the spear looks new, and even better, it has a stat buff that increases attack power. It should be noted that some players have observed that this can only be done once per Octorok, but it resets after a Blood Moon.
There are plenty of similar details in Tears of the Kingdom, and one of the best is that the game continues to pay homage to the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in even more endearing ways.
Interestingly, the game’s developer recently stated that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are “new formats” for the series going forward. It’s unclear if this means all games will be fully open world from now on, or if they just mean that the gameplay flexibility will remain the same in spirit. But overall, you can probably expect future Zelda games to be more like those two games than any of the classics. Let’s just hope you get to play Zelda in one of these.
