Older Apple devices (iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV) may soon lose access to some key Apple services like the App Store, Siri, and Maps.
If your Apple device, whether it’s an iPhone or MacBook, hasn’t updated to the latest version of iOS or macOS, you should do so immediately. Otherwise, you will lose access to some important apps including App Store, iCloud and many more.
As reported, Apple will no longer provide online services for older versions of its operating systems starting next month. This action affects certain versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS across the Apple ecosystem. However, iCloud is not affected.
According to a tweet from Stella Fudge, an industry regular who provides accurate leaks, the process is likely to affect a small percentage of users.
« Beginning in May, access to Apple services other than iCloud will be discontinued on the following devices: iOS 11-11.2.6, macOS 10.13-10.13.3, watchOS 4-4.2.3, and tvOS 11-11.2.6. You will likely get a notification prompting you to update ‘ she tweeted.
The solution: update the operating system
The multinational said in a support document released last month, obtained by MacRumors, a website that collects Apple-related news and rumours:
« Some older versions will no longer support Apple services like the App Store, Siri, and Maps. Update your software to the latest version available to continue using these services ».
An unclear decision by Apple
Apple hasn’t said why most of its services will stop working with these older versions released between late 2017 and early 2018. Instead, it said the change will only affect a small percentage of users.
The tech giant is committed to bringing the latest and most up-to-date technology to its users, and this move is part of that commitment.
