PlayStation has had considerable success releasing first-party games on Steam for a long time, although the porting process required some fixes. Recently, though, it made the big mistake of forcing Helldivers 2 PC players to connect their PSN accounts to their game, and that didn’t go over well. The game was subsequently removed from stores in over 170 countries, but the decision was reversed due to poor response. The backlash was so severe that even Sucker Punch had to clarify whether PC players would need to link a PSN account for the upcoming PC version of Ghost of Tsushima (the answer is yes, but only for the game’s online mode Legends).

Well, that still appears to be the case, except that ahead of next week’s release, the game has been removed from the countries where Hellraiser 2 is available. Players noticed changes to the Steam backend via SteamDB, which appears to list the exact same countries that Hellraiser 2 was removed from, all of which are regions where you can’t actually create a PSN account (excluding Japan, though why would it Be included, I don’t know) Totally sure). Some players have even reported that they’ve received automatic refunds from Steam as a result of the game’s removal, although your mileage may vary.
Apparently, when Sony said it was “still learning what’s best for PC players” and announced that Hellraiser 2 wouldn’t require a PSN account, this hadn’t yet been implemented in its other games. Hopefully it will soon realize that most people just want to play its games on PC without any extra hassle.
