One of the best modern fighting games, Guilty Gear Xrd: Revision 2, will receive a very important rollback netcode update on January 20th.

That means the game, which holds a special place in the hearts of many fighting game players, will have less lag and stuttering, making for a less frustrating online experience. That is, as long as it is implemented.

Speaking of Guity Gear… check out Bridget’s Strive trailer here!

news is coming Via the official Guilty Gear Twitter account, as you might imagine, the treats in the game’s community can be found in droves in the announcement’s comments. For many people, especially those with substandard internet connections, this essentially makes the game playable online, which was previously a frustrating experience.

This is the latest rollback update to legacy Arc System Works games. Back in December 2021, they proudly announced that Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle and Blazblue: Central Fiction would be overhauling their online infrastructure. Not only that, but Dragonball FighterZ also had its own rollback announcement during Evo 2022. So what’s the deal here?

First, every time one of the games gets a rollback update, that game’s concurrent player count spikes. With the news that these games are actually more or less playable to a wider player network, people are flocking to try them out. More players means more sales and of course more money. By implementing a rollback, Arc System Works (or any developer following the suite) revived a game they had expected to make very little money from.

It’s also come a long way in terms of community favor. The fighting game community is small, especially when compared to the player base of an FPS or RPG franchise, so getting positive points from players can go a long way in ensuring excitement for an upcoming project.

We can safely assume Arc System Works cares about rollbacks, so there’s little to worry about when it comes to future games. Comparing this to Bandai, which has yet to announce such features as Tekken 8, the difference in player anxiety is stark.

But what do you think? Will you download Rev 2 with the rollback patch? Let us know below!
