news culture One of the most influential French politicians hacks with Netflix in this fiction series
This controversial biopic project is finally about to land on Netflix. The trailer shared by the platform a few days ago suggests a series that is as exciting as it is ambitious. And it’s french.
A controversial biopic
Launched earlier this year, the biopic about Bernard Tapie is finally set to release on Netflix. The miniseries promises a return to the journey of this multi-faceted man who was a businessman, an actor, president of the Olympique de Marseille club and even joined the French government as city minister.
Bernard Tapie was a controversial French personality and his biopic is no different. Shortly before his death, when he found out about this project, he immediately rejected it, as reported by Tristan Séguéla, the series’ creator, last April.
I met him and told him I wanted to do a series about him. His reaction was simple, he said to me: “I will stop you immediately, that’s no!” To which I replied that I did not come to ask his permission, just to warn him that I thing would tackle. I could have stopped here, of course, but if there’s one thing that Tapie has inspired me to do, it’s not to limit myself to that kind of warning. He himself would not have considered it.
Coming soon to Netflix
Despite the refusal of Bernard Tapie and his wife Dominique Tapie, this biopic will indeed see the light of day on Netflix soon. Laurent Lafitte takes on the title role, while Joséphine Japy, Fabrice Luchini, Camille Chamoux Antoine Reinartz or Hakim Jemili are in the cast of this French production.
As both the showrunner and the lead actor explained, Tapie will be heavily fictionalized, a feature that was immediately apparent in the trailer shared by Netflix two days ago. The series promises a return to the run of this unforgiving man, from his beginnings as a businessman, his arrival at the helm of OM and the club’s European crowning, his ties to French power, his setbacks with the judiciary… in short, a real epic that already promises excitement. Available from September 13th.
