Sad news: The obviously highly anticipated next Lord of the Rings game has been delayed. But all is not lost and we hope for the best.
Fans of life simulators and the Lord of the Rings universe will have to be patient. The release of the highly anticipated Tales of the Shire, originally scheduled for fall 2024, has been postponed to early 2025. News that disappointed some, but could well allow us to refine this quiet adventure in the Shire.
Why this delay in the Lord of the Rings game?
Developer Wētā Workshop did not give a specific reason for the delay. However, the team explained that they wanted to take the time to ensure that every moment in the game met players’ expectations.”When you experience Bywater for the first time, we want it to be exactly as you imagine“, they explained.
In other words, it’s about ensuring a complete experience. And that still needs some time. The goal is clear: to offer a game that remains faithful to Tolkien’s vision of the Shire, a place of peace and gentleness. Since its announcement last April, Tales of the Shire has attracted attention. This life simulator, reminiscent of titles such as Stardew Valley, offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in a soothing and friendly version of Middle Earth. The game is based on the universe of The Lord of the Rings and offers a unique experience.
This game is not about epic battles or grandiose quests. Instead, you will find simple, relaxing activities: planting gardens, fishing, cooking, meeting neighbors, and of course, decorating your own hobbit hole. A way to make the dream of many fans come true: settling comfortably in the Shire, far from the hustle and bustle.
An understandable disappointment
Obviously, some players are a little disappointed that they have to wait a few more months. But it must be admitted that this delay will undoubtedly allow Wētā Workshop to refine the smallest details. After all, who doesn’t like to wait a little for a really good game? And if we then remember the Gollum game…
