One Piece: the iconic work of the 21st century.
” My darling ? I leave it to you, if you want it, FIND IT! I left it somewhere in this world. It gives chills, doesn’t it? For the non-connoisseurs, With this phrase begins the work of Eichiro Oda, uttered by Gol D. Roger, the King of Pirates, at the time of his execution. With the latter begins the golden age of piracy. We can say that without him One Piece would not exist, without this line none of the pirates known in the work would have gone to sea, especially our main character. One Piece tells us the story of Monkey D. Luffy. This young pirate decides to go to sea after hearing about the adventures of Shanks Le Roux, a pirate he knew as a child. Shanks bequeaths his Straw Hat to Luffy in hopes that once he becomes a great pirate he can return it. This straw hat becomes the emblem of our protagonist, who sets out to find One Piece and thus become the freest man in the world! Would you like more details? Very quickly, the story of the manga becomes the story of a world, a whole universe. On his journey, our protagonist will meet friends and opponents that he must defeat in order to advance. He discovers a vast, complex world with its own rules, its own powers and mysteries to solve. Our hero will fail, he will win, fall down, get up, etc. You might think we’re dealing with a classic shonen, but not at all. One Piece’s strength is its richness and colorful side. It allows its author to talk to the story of the fish people and the sky dragons about freedom as a whole, as well as racism or discrimination. For example, the history of Wa country relates directly to the history of Japan. Even if Eichiro Oda manages to be fair and coherent, he manages to make us cry by presenting us with a character that dresses up as a baby, he manages, a character that uses the biscuit as his main weapon to make noble. With an overflowing imagination, One Piece is a long work, but it is this unparalleled imagination, its richness, its length that is the true strength of this manga. Would you like more details?
