When Game Freak created Pokémon, he surely didn't know everything he was going to generate in the future. Being one of the most successful franchises in history, Pokémon has extended beyond video games and has become a phenomenon. But there are still things that we discovered even 24 years later. References that escaped our naive mentality or Pokémon with a dark origin behind. We know all this through interviews of its creators and others archives about videogame development. And the first installment had a reference to a very popular 80's movie among youth.
You may not realize the first time you played the original game, but Twitter user Dr. Lava has remembered the precise moment in which they talked about the movie. Is about ‘Count on me’ (Stay by me), a film starring four young people in which there were actors such as Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman (‘The Goonies’) or the ill-fated River Phoenix. They all embarked on an adventure to find a missing boy and it was a movie that left several scenes to remember. In the first Pokémon, the player could turn on the television in his room that was just broadcasting the movie. «Four boys are walking along the tracks of a train», said the description hinting at one of the most popular sequences.
Trainer Red's TV:
In the Gen 1 Pokemon games, your bedroom TV is playing the 1986 film Stand By Me. SBM was incredibly popular in Japan, and the text is identical in the games' original Japanese versions. The film is about 4 young boys who walk two days to see a dead kid's body. pic.twitter.com/6Uzyle5BEm
