If you only need a PC at home for light home office work, surfing, watching videos, answering emails and similar tasks, you don’t need a large desktop PC with a graphics card costing 1,000 dollars and enough computing power to run complex simulations. Instead, a small, energy-efficient and much cheaper mini-PC will probably suffice.

Such a mini PC would be the Geekom Mini Air12. The power comes from the Intel Alder Lake N100 with access to 16 gigabytes of DDR5 RAM. The lesser-known chip is, according to Benchmark von cpubenchmark.net about as powerful as an Apple A13 Bionic, which is installed in the iPhone 11 and the ninth generation iPads. Surfing, light office work, watching 4K videos and minimal gaming are all possible.

What is not so easy with a smartphone, tablet or even some laptops is connecting multiple displays. You don’t necessarily need another screen to watch videos, but more than one display can mean significantly higher productivity, especially when surfing the internet and doing office work.

According to the manufacturer, the Geekom Mini Air12 supports up to three displays via USB 3.2 Gen 2, Mini Displayport 1.4 and HDMI 2.0. 4K at 60 Hertz (frames per second) is therefore no problem with a suitable monitor. Access to a network and the Internet is easy via a Gigabit Ethernet connection or built-in Wi-Fi 6.

Due to the compact size, there are hardly any USB ports for more than a keyboard and mouse. A suitable USB hub would be advisable for this. A headset including a microphone can be connected via a 3.5 mm jack or you can use Bluetooth 5.2. You probably won’t need headphones to drown out the Mini Air12 thanks to the maximum volume of 45.7 dB.
A 512 gigabyte PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD provides enough storage space. Many terms that ultimately mean for the Mini Air12 that if the PC feels slow, it is highly unlikely that the SSD is to blame. Windows 11 Pro is also included.
A VESA mount is included in the delivery so that the 117 x 112 x 34.2 millimeter mini PC can disappear completely from view for a minimalist setup. This means that you could also attach the mini PC to the back of a monitor with a VESA mount – which is the case with most monitors – with the right adapter.
