Julius Robert Oppenheimer is the scientific director of the Manhattan Project. Within this US project, the development of the first atomic bomb is to take place in order to have a life-or-death weapon during World War II. During his research and the development process of the bomb, Oppenheimer realizes that he is responsible for the future fate of the world.

“Peaky Blinders” star Cillian Murphy stars as physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer. Joining him are Emily Blunt (“A Quiet Place”) as Oppenheimer’s wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Oscar winner Matt Damon (“Air”) as General Leslie Groves Jr., head of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man”) as Lewis Strauss, co-founder of the US Atomic Energy Commission, on camera.

Nolan is also serving as the biopic’s director and screenwriter. The screenplay is based in large part on the Oppenheimer biography by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
