Marvel Studios has big plans for the future of the MCU. With The Fantastic Four In the crosshairs, the company wants to make a splash at the box office with the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a decision that has not pleased some fans for not giving the opportunity to another actor.
However, there is also a group that supports this return. One of the last to comment on the matter was Joseph Culp
“It was an amazing moment to finally see an actor step into the shoes of Doom after many years. We’ve had a couple of other incarnations, but it’s Robert Downey Jr. How exciting. As a fellow actor, I congratulate Mr. Downey. It’s a magnificent role. He’s a magnificent actor who has proven himself time and time again. He’s reincarnated himself in so many ways, I think, both in his life and in his career, so perhaps who better to take on the mantle of Doom at this uncertain time when Marvel, I think a lot of people would agree, needs a big push? So why not turn to Mr. Downey?”
Culp believes Downey is good enough to become an iconic villain. His career backs him up and he has been able to redeem himself from his past demons to become a benchmark in the industry, something that few actors and actresses have achieved.
He also stresses that Downey is the perfect man to revive Marvel again, since after several years of decline after Avengers: Endgamethere is no better choice than the actor who raised the franchise to unimaginable profit levels. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters around the world on April 30, 2026.
