Craig Mazin doesn't seem to like happy stories
With "Last Us", one of the most popular video games in the past decade is undergoing series adaptations on HBO. Craig Mazin, the creator of Chernobyl, pulled the behind the scenes. Despite initial concerns, Studio Naughty Dog was also involved.
Because of its fascinating story, "The Last of Us" is still one of the most popular Playstation titles even 7 years after its first release. The filming of the game Unknown Realm-Drex Hicksal, also produced by developer Naughty Dog, is currently progressing slowly, while ABC HBO is now trying to adapt the "Our Doomsday" series.
Craig Mazin has had great success with the 2019 HBO / Sky co-production Chernobyl and will take care of the series as a writer and executive producer. He was supported by Neil Druckmann, who was previously one of the authors of video game templates. Druckmann worked as a screenwriter for The Last Us in 2014, but the film was never finalized. It was not until 2018 that Druckman was relieved by this development. After all, the game of "Naughty Dog" has been staged like a movie, so the story of "The Last Us" has been completely told in the game.
Druckman acknowledged that he was accepting a movie that would tell a different story with a new character in the "our last" universe. At the same time, Druckman seems to have changed his mind once again, as he himself confirmed on Twitter that Joel and Ellie will also play a major role in the series.
At least the storyline can still be different from the gameplay, so we have no choice but to wait for more information about the upcoming series. However, Druckman is currently completing the sequel, The Last Us II, which will be released in May.
