Time travel is of the utmost importance in Outlander. While much of the action takes place in the 18th century (first in Scotland, later in the New World), Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) would have loved her red-haired Scotsman Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) without the Craigh na Dun stone circle and never got to know and love the journey into the past that this made possible!
Later in the course of the series, other time travelers from the Fraser family are added – and some secondary characters also turn out to actually come from the future (or the past).
