“Outlander” was canceled to the shock of many fans. The series is scheduled to end after Season 8. But US broadcaster Starz wants to tell a new story from the world of Diana Gabaldon.
- “Outlander” will be renewed for an 8th season. But this will be the series finale.
- The spin-off “Blood of my Blood” officially receives the green light from US broadcaster Starz.
Shock for all “Outlander” fans: the series has actually been canceled. But at least the US broadcaster Starz is giving Starz an 8th season before we have to say goodbye to Claire and Jamie Fraser.
With novelist Diana Gabaldon looking to wrap up the book series with book 10, the story of the time-travelling lovers seems to be over. So the series will end before the book series.
But there is still good news from Starz: The “Outlander” spin-off “Blood of my Blood” officially gets the green light. It is set to precede the story of Claire and Jamie and will explore the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.
Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will also work on the spin-off. Maril Davis, Ronald D. Moore and Diana Gabaldon themselves will executive produce.
But first we can expect an extra long 7th season, which will consist of 16 episodes. The episodes are based on the 7th novel in the “Outlander” series and deal with the American Revolution, which has now reached the Frasers. The episodes are scheduled to air in summer 2023.
