You can add a read receipt in Outlook to important messages that you don’t want your recipients to miss. We’ll show you how to activate the function.
Overflowing email inboxes are not uncommon. With a flood of advertising emails and newsletters, an important message can often be overlooked. So that you don’t have to worry about whether your email was actually opened by the recipient, you can activate the read receipt in Outlook.
In order for the read receipt to really work, the recipient must use an email service that is compatible with the function. In addition to Outlook, this also includes many other common email services. These prompt you with a message to confirm that the email has been read.
The recipient can also reject the confirmation manually, but this will probably not happen with trustworthy contacts. The feature is a real help, especially in a professional environment.
The read confirmation should not be confused with the delivery confirmation, which is also available. The latter only informs you when a message has reached the recipient’s mail server and is therefore rather useless except in exceptional cases. If an email cannot be delivered, your own provider will also let you know with a corresponding response.

In the email window, go to the âOptionsâ tab before sending.

There you can tick the âRequest read receiptâ box in the ribbon bar and then send your email.
