As part of CitizenCon 2954 on October 19, 2024, a lot of fresh gameplay from Star Citizen’s single-player campaign Squadron 42 was shown. A segment lasting over 70 minutes shows the start of the game including character creation, exploration on foot, elaborate cutscenes and of course spectacular space battles. In the battle shown against the Vanduul alien race, dramatic scenes unfold: We man guns, fight in the narrow corridors of rum ships, fly through weightlessness, experience boarding maneuvers and even learn to control a capital ship. Part of the prominent cast can also be seen: Witcher actor, Warhammer ambassador and general gamer favorite Henry Cavill appears as the commander of the eponymous Squadron 42, but Gary Oldman and Gillian Anderson can also be seen again. Star Citizen also has Mark Hamill, Jonathan Baily, Andy Serkis and Liam Cunningham under contract. A rough release period was also announced at CitizenCon: Squadron 42 is scheduled to appear in 2026. You can find out why crashes overshadowed the show, how much playing time the campaign offers and what Chris Roberts says about the release date in our CitizenCon summary of Squadron 42!
