After the release of Death Stranding, it’s an open secret that mastermind Hideo Kojima is already working on a new project – but what is it? A renowned leaker is now bringing a horror game called Overdose into play.
After the quite unusual Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions could devote more time to the horror genre in his next project. That wouldn’t be completely new territory for Kojima, after all he was already working on Silent Hills for a while, which ultimately never got beyond the “Playable Teaser” PT.
If acclaimed leaker and insider Tom Henderson is to be believed – and he’s known to hit the mark very often – Kojima is now making a comeback to the horror genre. His new project should therefore be called Overdose – at least that’s probably the current project name behind the scenes.
Henderson has already been leaked the first scenes from that Overdose. It also starred a character played by Margaret Qualley, who wears a blue outfit and trudges through the dark with a flashlight. The game is to be played from both the first and third person perspectives.
The casting of Qualley would not be a novelty for Kojima, after all, she already embodied the character Mama in Death Stranding. Despite their reappearance and contrary to recent speculation, Overdose is not supposed to be a sequel to Death Stranding. Kojima has also worked with the same cast members on different projects in the past. The most prominent example is undoubtedly the Walking Dead star Norman Reedus, who would have been seen in the canceled Silent Hills, but then finally made it as a protagonist in Death Stranding.
Earlier rumors about Kojima’s potential horror project promised an Xbox exclusivity for the title, while others spoke of a PS5 exclusivity. In this respect, the official presentation of Overdose remains exciting. Maybe there will be news this week as part of the Summer Game Fest? Kojima is known to have the best connections to host Geoff Keighley.
