Overwatch is still Blizzard’s long-running team shooter. The successor, Overwatch 2, is due to appear in October this year. In an Ask me Anything on Reddit, fans were allowed to pester the developers with all sorts of questions. The social features of the game were also discussed.
Yesterday, Activisi on Blizzard ran an Ask Me Anything on Reddit. In the format, players can pester the developers with questions and hope for a concrete answer. When asked about a system to bring players closer together in Overwatch 2, game director Aaron Keller replied that the plan is to add more social systems to the game, with a guild system like that found in online role-playing game World of Warcraft at the top on the priority list.
However, the implementation of guilds is a huge undertaking, which not only takes a lot of time for the part of the studio that works on Overwatch 2, but also has to be discussed with other parts within Blizzard. He didn’t go into detail about it. The guild system is not yet ready for a decision. Whether players will be allowed to join forces for the release of the game, which is planned for October this year, is still in the stars.
Another point are tournaments that can be held directly in the game. So far, it has not been possible to create specific ones in Overwatch. But also on the subject, Keller says clearly that the team is currently only thinking about it and nothing has been implemented yet. It might find its way into the game at a later date.
