Blizzard Entertainment keeps its word and is now implementing a cross-play function in the long-running Overwatch. We’ll tell you what kronket means from now on.
As early as 2018, Blizzard Entertainment had made public considerations to expand the online action game Overwatch with cross-play functionality if possible. This venture was initially difficult, especially with Sony, but now the PlayStation manufacturer is also opening up to the topic.
Earlier this month, Blizzard announced that cross-play would be added to Overwatch in June – and that’s exactly what happened. The beta of the feature is now available and lets players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch now play with and against each other. On consoles it is necessary to link the game to a Battle.net account.
Once you have done that, you will be able to play together with players from all other platforms in the future – regardless of which platforms they are on. According to Game Director Aaron Keller, the standard setting is for one group of console players to gamble with another group of console players. A party made up of PC players can meet other PC players, as well as groups of PC and console players.
The modes quick search, arcade and user-defined games are supported. Anyone who competes in Overwatch does not have to worry about any disadvantages compared to PC gamers. Ranked games are excluded insofar as PC and console players cannot meet here; There are separate matchmaking pools in this part of the action game.
The start of the cross-play feature must of course be celebrated. Everyone who logs into Overwatch by the end of 2021 will therefore receive a golden loot box for free. The following trailer further explains the cross-play feature; You will find extensive details, the answers to frequently asked questions and instructions on how to connect to the Battle.net account on your console here on the official website.
