pale shore is an indie game released in February that puts you in the role of a reluctant captain of his sea-going vessel stuck in the ice.
This rather fun-looking game asks you to keep yourself and your crew alive while you’re stuck on the ice.
In this adventure survival game, you are part of the crew of The Temperance, exploring the arctic south in search of Viscount and his crew. The miss ing ship had set sail for the Pale Strait in search of Absolute Magnetic South, but was unable to return from the expedition.
While navigating a harsh, ever-changing landscape, the ship becomes stuck in the ice and the captain goes missing. As the reluctant new captain, you are now in charge of keeping a crew of 24 and 12 sled dogs safe, fed and warm as the polar winter approaches. Not an easy task in such a desolate place.
You need to tread carefully, as the possibility of mutiny is high. Every vote counts, so please get the staff on your side. Also, please don’t let the dog die. You can always give the job or bosun or whatever to someone else. You can’t buy a new dog, and every one less is one less mouth (I’m such a horrible person!).
Watching the video is reminiscent of the 2018 TV miniseries Terror, starring Jared Harris. Unlike the series, though, the game doesn’t appear to have supernatural elements. Surviving the snow and starvation would be enough, I thought.
Bellular Games is a development studio founded by YouTuber Michael Bell (BellularGaming) and Creative Director Thomas Hislop. The pair have received support and funding from Screen Northern Ireland and The Treasure Hunters FanClub.
Pale Beyond launches on PC on February 24th. You can wishlist it right now on Steam, and if you’re interested in the premise, give the demo a try.
