The big Sakurajima update with fresh content was recently released for Palworld, and this is now causing the number of players to skyrocket again.
PocketPair recently released the big summer update called Sakurajima, which adds new Pals, enemies, items and areas to explore. This is helping the game make a major comeback in terms of player numbers after it had been pretty weak in the meantime.
We remember: In January, Palworld took the gaming world by storm and brought over 2 million simultaneous gamers on Steam – a truly insane number. But the number of players then dropped just as quickly, partly because the game content was still quite manageable.
Recently, around 15,000 gamers were playing in Palworld at the same time every day, but the Sakurajima update that has just been released has resulted in a significant increase in this number, although Palworld is still below the fabulous figures from January. In the past 24 hours, however, over 143,000 gamers were playing in Palworld on Steam at the same time – and there are currently over 137,000 gamers playing. The Sakurajima update is therefore luring gamers back to the survival game that was once described as “Pokémon with weapons”.
The question remains whether this growth in player numbers is sustainable or whether it is just a short-lived flash in the pan. That will depend primarily on whether PocketPair can provide additional new game content fairly quickly.
