When eFootball 2022 appears on Steam on September 30, 2021, it will be a disaster: The successor to Konami’s long-standing Pro Evolution Soccer series turned out to be unfinished, buggy and lacking in gameplay. Like many other players, tester Dennis was more than just disappointed:

We tested eFootball for you
Six months later, eFootball 2022 is still in bad shape – although it’s not that bad anymore lowest rated game on Steam is. But there is a glimmer of hope: Konami announces that update 1.0.0 with countless improvements will be released in a few days after a long wait.
Apologies from the developers – and a whole lot of changes
In a self-critical post on the Konami site the Japanese developer admits that with eFootball 2022 the self-imposed goals have so far been completely missed. They really wanted to release the game in time and completely lost sight of the quality.
The team now wants to change that and has been working for months on update 1.0.0 – the really final release of eFootball 2022. The team has collected a lot of feedback for weeks and is now ready to publish the numerous changes. And they have it all, at least on the sheet of paper.

In the first trailer, the transition from PES to eFootball looked promising
Better defensive controls
In addition to countless planned bug fixes, the focus is primarily on some large, playful changes. For example, when it comes to defensive behavior: The default key mapping has been changed to make defending a bit easier to understand from now on. In addition, the pressing commands from the predecessors are returning and with the shoulder bump via button press there is a new way of recapturing the ball.
revision of passports
The passes and thus the general game speed were much too slow even for experienced PES players. Because of this, the developers are increasing the speed of passing and promising that henceforth a rhythmic passing game
as is usual in modern football, is possible.
At the same time, the team overhauled the AI decision-making process for pass recipients, allowing for better aiming on passes. This should lead to fewer bad passes. With the new command dream pass
last but not least, you can now play very special passes that have a special trajectory.
Improvements for dribbling and shooting
In addition to Traumpass, there is also one with update 1.0.0 dream shot
: Players should be able to achieve precise goals with it. In addition, there are also improvements to the trajectory and speed, which should provide a more realistic picture overall.
The same goes for dribbling, another stumbling block in the eFootball experience so far. Konami promises more realistic movements, increased ball control precision, simpler feint controls and the new command Sharp start
.
Less lag in online mode
If you actually wanted to play eFootball 2022 in multiplayer mode, you could expect a moderate connection quality with annoying lags. This should also be a thing of the past with update 1.0.0, because from now on Konami will be using a client-server system. This should increase the quality in online mode significantly, even if you want to make further improvements in the future.

return of old functions and Dreamteam
In terms of tactics, Konami is finally bringing back features with the update that were actually standard in previous versions. Also includes change lineup
, individual instructions
, Secondary tactics
the data management
and the automatic selection
.
On the content side, Konami names the Creative Team game mode in Dreamteam
and wants to give you more freedom. It would not be about keeping the strongest players and coaches, but about developing your own players. You can choose your favorite players and coaches, but subordinate them entirely to your own playstyle. How exactly this looks in detail is difficult to say given the lack of information.
When will update 1.0.0 be released?
The most important question at the end: So when is the update supposed to come out? After all, the big patch was already planned for the end of 2021 before Konami pulled the ripcord at almost the last second and postponed development.
eFootball remains broken for the time being
Konami comments on the promised patch
But now it should really be time. If nothing goes wrong in the last meters, then Update 1.0.0 will be released on April 14, 2022. After that, eFootball 2022 will receive regular updates and patches that will also implement other new features.
Now the football fans among you are asked: will you give eFootball 2022 one (last) chance with update 1.0.0 or can Konami by no means win you back? Let us know what you think about it in the comments!
