Design Director Drew Murray announced his departure from the studio Post on Twitter, He said that he is bidding farewell to Microsoft’s The Initiative to focus more on his personal life. He joined the developer in November 2018 and previously worked at Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac for more than ten years.
He wrote: “After two years of work, I helped launch The Initiative and restarted Perfect Dark. Now it’s time for me to bid farewell to my team at The Initiative.”
“Working side by side with such a talented and experienced team is an extraordinary job, many of whom are now good friends, but my life outside of work requires more attention and headspace than I have recently given, so I resigned from my post.
“When I joined the studio, the project was full of mystery-I don’t know what type of game it is, I don’t know it will become “Perfect Darkness”, and I don’t know anyone on the team.
“The silver lining to all of this is that I am very happy to join the scream on the release day of Perfect Dark to experience the game.”
Microsoft established the program in the summer of 2018, which hints that the Santa Monica-based studio is working on a new Perfect Dark project. The game was officially announced at the 2020 Game Awards, and the developers (including Murray) stated that its purpose is to differentiate it from other shooting games on the market.
“One of the things we considered was how to distinguish the so-called “spy fighting” from what you would see in a traditional first-person shooter game,” Murray said.
