In turn, on the Starfield subreddit, a player following Spencer noticed that he had been playing the upcoming role-playing game. It’s no surprise that the Xbox boss has already picked up the console’s biggest game of the year. After all, you probably want to make sure your game is at least somewhat good before releasing it.

Other fans noticed that Bethesda’s head of publishing, Pete Hines, had also been playing the game, a fact fans were of course just a little jealous of. “Only a few weeks left…stay strong…must not feel jealous…uh…” wrote one user on Reddit (seven weeks at the time of writing, to be exact). “This is ridiculous and unfair and now I’m appealing the merger to stop it,” wrote another, presumably talking about Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, which is already a long-done deal .
While you won’t be able to play the game as early as Spencer or Hines, if you pre-order the digital premium version of the game, you can play the game five days early, so it’s always worth considering whether you like the game on Reddit. Some fans are just as desperate.
Starfield will obviously join The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as one of the biggest hits of the year, but it won’t be on that scale since it won’t be launching on PS5. Xbox isn’t too worried about that idea, as it thinks Game Pass will make up for lost sales on rival platforms.
