The reveal of the Xbox Series X was one of the most significant moments in Game Awards history, and event organizers went to great lengths to make sure it didn't leak.

Taken by Phil Spencer Game Awards 2019 On stage on Thursday, and officially announcing the Xbox Series X as Microsoft's next-generation console, it was the most surprising moment of the entire night.

Although the announcement of Game Awards is usually not leaked, the scale of its disclosure and the information shared are limited, which could have been more easily spread. To avoid this, the show organizers prepared a fake script for Spencer, who read the script during the rehearsal without mentioning the Xbox SeriesX.

Creator Geoff Keighley told Variety that the fake script was about the Xbox Game Pass, just to throw everyone at the most important moment.

This isn't necessarily surprising, not even for gaming awards. Keanu Reeves' grand entrance to E3 this year has also been kept secret until the last minute.
