Who would have believed that! Pikmin, the famous strategy and adventure series starring Captain Olimar and the little leafy creatures, will be back very soon with a Pikmin 4 that we weren’t expecting.
Pikmin 4: An announcement in 2015, and then nothing… or almost nothing
In 2015, Shigeru Miyamoto, the famous Japanese creator of Mario and Zelda, stated during an interview with Famitsu that the development of Pikmin 4 was in full swing and, what’s more, that it was almost done ! At the time, Nintendo didn’t want to specify what platform the game would be released on, hinting at a possible release WiiU and Switchwhich was still called NX.
But as you can see, only Pikmin 3 came to fill the WiiU toy library before it was released in a deluxe version on October 30th, 2020. The following year, Miyamoto indicated that the priorities of the moment had probably pushed the title back on the release schedule, but development continued:
You know, when we’re in development, we have to create a priority list, and it was difficult to put them on that list. But we’re starting to see it on this list now.

Since ? Radio silence aside from a few rumors suggesting the title hasn’t been abandoned and will be releasing on Switch. And the Switch release of Pikmin 3 Deluxe in no way indicated that Pikmin 4 was still in development. It was therefore necessary to wait for the Nintendo Direct of this Tuesday September 13, 2022 for Shugeru Miyamoto after teasing the public. presents images of this Pikmin 4, a logo but also and above all an output window ! Pikmin 4 will therefore be available somewhere in 2023 on Nintendo Switch, with no further details for now.
20 years after the release of the first game, the Pikmin license definitely hasn’t spoken its last word yet! On the gameplay side, you have to be patient. However, Shigeru Miyamoto clarified that players will be able to take a point of view closer to the Pikmin. The opportunity to see the character that guides the small creatures is likely Britanny, one of the three main characters of Pikmin 3.
The executive producer also mentioned that the Nintendo Switch allowed developers to focus on gameplay. This handling was carried out internally with the name Dandori. It remains to be seen what exactly lies behind this concept word, which should be at the heart of the gameplay of the game.
