PlanetSide Arena server will be offline on January 10

Arena, January, offline, PlanetSide, server

Just three months after the early access on Steam, Daybreak Games announced that it would shut down the servers on Planetside Arena.

According to the official announcement, Planetside Arena Early access does not attract enough players to "maintain the game experience envisioned by game developers."

The server will be offline on January 10th, and starting today, it will no longer be able to get all currency purchases and DLC (thanks Blue).

This is the official statement:

After careful consideration, we made a difficult decision to shut down the PlanetSide Arena server.

Although our team has an ambitious vision for a game that brings together PlanetSide's massive fighting and friendliness through various new game modes, we have clearly known a few months after Early Access , Our population level prevents us from sustaining the gaming experience we envision.

Therefore, PlanetSide Arena will officially shut down the server at 5:00 PM (PST) on January 10, 2020. We are actively working with Steam to ensure that after the server shuts down in January, all players making purchases during the Early Access period will automatically receive a full refund to their Steam Wallet.

Thank you again for your loyalty and support in Beta and Early Access. Your feedback is invaluable, and your continued passion for PlanetSide remains the cornerstone of our community. Despite the painful conclusion of this chapter, we remain firmly committed to this franchise and look forward to continuing with you through the PlanetSide Universe.

The game was announced in late 2018 as a game-based sequel, supporting 1,000 players per game and battle royale.

The first season of the title was originally scheduled for release in January of this year and then postponed to March. Then it was delayed again because Daybreak wanted to release it on both PC and PS4.

In October, the company suffered a round of layoffs that affected the Planetside Arena team and others. This is the third round of layoffs. The first round of layoffs occurred in December 2018, when 60-70 people were laid off. Prior to that round of layoffs, the company also laid off staff in April of the same year.
