Even as a long-time GamePro editor, I can tell you: It wasn’t that easy to get to a PlayStation 5 on time for the launch. In the first two waves of pre-orders of the console, which cost 400 to 500 dollars, both versions (with and without disk drive) were sold out in no time. I speak from experience, because I also came away empty-handed. Those who weren’t fast enough are now without a next-gen console and should seriously consider buying Ebay at an inflated price.
This problem does not (yet) exist with our 146-page special issue on the PlayStation 5, because you can get it for a slim 9.99 dollars – about a hundredth of what particularly brazen resellers are currently asking for the console.
Not a bad deal when you consider that the booklet is packed with useful tips and tricks for using the console as well as extensive reviews of the available and upcoming games and the hardware itself.
Everything you need to know to get started
No, it is no longer like it used to be: “Unpack the console, connect it, get started” was once upon a time. Even seasoned game editors like to get confused when faced with new technology and features. I feel no different. That’s why you’ll find detailed beginner’s guides on topics such as PlayStation accounts, data transfer, backward compatibility, technology and, most importantly, television in the PS5 special issue. Because the full power of the PS5 only comes into its own with the right TV. Keyword HDMI 2.1!
It would be a shame to stock up on new hardware and new games and then not be able to enjoy all of this as the developers thought. There are so many pitfalls to be overcome. Take Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, for example. Many players are playing the technically stripped-down PS4 version on their brand new PS5 without even knowing it. Annoying! So it makes sense to read our special issue first. Even if you haven’t got a console and have to wait a bit – you will already know when the time has finally come!
This is how the start works
PS4 on PS5, HDMI, hard drive, accessories: In the special issue for PlayStation 5 you will find a guide to all relevant introductory topics.
- Connection step by step
- Backward Compatibility
- Apps and networking

Finally start playing!
Once the console has been set up, the best thing you can do with it can start: play! In the special issue you can read which games you need and what you can look forward to.
- These games are available at launch
- These games are coming soon
- PS Plus Collection: what is it and what games are included?
- What technology is in the PS5?
- Which TVs fit the PS5?
Don’t just play, turn the pages
So: Regardless of whether you are one of the lucky ones who have already got hold of a PlayStation 5 and want to make the most of your system with our guides, or whether you (like my new giant TV and I) have to wait a bit and read in the meantime – I think our special issue is definitely worth it!
And I’m already looking forward to finally being able to leaf through the freshly printed copy.
