Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 recently opened its doors. The first test ratings from the international press are gradually arriving and, of course, the community is also expressing its opinion on Metacritic, Steam and Co.
While the varied solo campaign around the legendary Task Force 141 gets a lot of praise, the first phase after the multiplayer launch is overshadowed by technical problems and content that was canceled at short notice. We summarize the different opinions.
When is our GameStar rating coming? We have already tested the campaign and drawn a detailed conclusion, which you can read in the article linked below. We are currently working on multiplayer and co-op – as soon as we have put these areas through their paces, we will update the test and give an overall rating. We expect that in the coming days.

Die highest critic rating comes from the Spanish game portal GamersRD. In the test, which includes campaign and multiplayer modes as well as a technical check, Alejandro Paula gives the shooter a 9.6 out of 10 and particularly praises how much content is already there or is still to come:
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is an exceptional game and a worthy successor. (…) It’s more of what the fans expect, but with improved features. All the available game modes and the announced content promise many exciting hours in which we can immerse ourselves in the game.
John Cantees from GamingBolt is more critical with his rating of 7 out of 10. He is currently criticizing the lack of content, but still thinks the game is basically good:
Modern Warfare 2 mostly doesn’t live up to its name, but focuses on what worked well in the MW era and delivers a solid, well-rounded CoD experience. (…) I think CoD veterans who have been around for a long time will like a lot about the new part. It feels a bit “back to the basics” in parts, which can be nice, but it also pays a certain price for that feeling by feeling a bit empty compared to Cold War or even Vanguard.

In fact, some content was canceled or revised at short notice, for example the museum map from the beta is missing in the finished game. Weapon tuning and pinging enemies had to be temporarily disabled due to technical issues. Hardcore mode isn’t coming until November 16th, along with the Season 1 update and Warzone 2.
That’s what the players say themselves
Of the User Score of Modern Warfare 2 falls with a 6.9 much more critical than the previous press conclusion, the difference is even greater in the four console versions – there the user reviews slip down to 6.0 in some cases. Gamers are particularly annoyed by crashes and the confusing user interface. PC users also often complain about the Aim Assist feature, which is supposed to make it easier for console players to land hits. Some feel the aim assist is unfairly strong.
Sure, in the beginning almost no big launch goes smoothly and many let their frustration run wild with very negative reviews. But Steam also paints a fairly critical picture, also for players with a few hours under the hood:
