Lately, Helldivers 2 seems to have strangely proliferated on Steam. These were obviously scams, but fortunately they didn’t last long.
The success that Helldivers 2 has had on PC and PS5 actually seems to have given unscrupulous people ideas. Some independent games have recently become copies of the game, which of course has caused some confusion on Steam. Fortunately, the deception was short-lived.
Helldivers 2’s democracy is violated by scams
When Steam players discovered that Helldivers 2 was available for 13 or 20 dollars, many were surprised. The news then spread like an orbital bombardment on social networks. It must be said that given the game’s success, it seemed unlikely that it would already be the subject of promotions. The reality, of course, was completely different: it was purely a scam.
The two “copies” of Helldivers 2 were actually already existing independent games. The two titles also appear to have been developed by the same person. This put an end to the deception by changing their metadata. From the game’s image to its description to the name of the studio and publisher, the illusion could have been perfect. Unfortunately, the scammer hadn’t thought of anything important. The ridiculous number of reviews of these two clones has therefore alarmed Steam.
Steam cleans to avoid another “The Day Before.”
The two fake games were removed from the Valve platform after just a few hours. The Pot-aux-Roses was quickly discovered. They were actually Figurality and Do Not Smile. The two games allegedly came from SoleOnBoard Studio and Whitehole Games, respectively. However, both came out on the same day. This indicates the initiative of one and the same person.
However, we can ask ourselves how this deception could be carried out. The developer would not have been able to change the metadata of its games. Regardless, Steam clearly wanted to avoid another “The Day Before”-style drama. And especially the fact that many disgruntled players need to be compensated. Despite its stability issues, Helldivers 2 is actually one of the big successes of the beginning of the year. Several users could have fallen into the trap.
Speaking of the success of Arrowhead’s game, it should be in full swing soon. As urgent fixes are deployed, new features like Mechas should be available soon. The Helldivers could really use some new toys to give the enemies of democracy a taste of free tea.
