The secret star of Sons of the Forest is Kelvin, who catches fish for you, collects resources and tirelessly cuts down entire forests.
Especially when it comes to felling wood, the AI helper shows enormous commitment, which often goes a little too far. Videos are piling up on social media in which Kelvin also falls trees on which players actually want to build tree houses – and the companion often seems proud to destroy your buildings.
Of course, to curb Kelvin’s destructiveness, you can park him in the base or even turn off his light completely with a few attacks – but then you forego his highly efficient lumberjack skills.
How to use Kelvin really safely without losing your tree house is now explained by a player on Reddit.
Sending Kelvin into the desert can be worthwhile
On Reddit, a player wanted to know the best way to protect their treehouse base from Kelvin the Destroyer.
His idea: Simply set up a wall of wooden poles around the tree on which you build your base. With that, the tree house should actually be safe … you think!

Because, as the player reports only a short time later, Kelvin has found a way to avoid this obstacle as well – he simply slips through the protective wall and, as so often, dismantles the laboriously constructed tree house.
In the comments, however, a player reports who managed to protect his base from Kelvin and still take advantage of his lumberjack skills.
That’s how it’s done: You have to look for a forest area as far away as possible in which Kelvin can let off steam. Then you build some log holders there and instruct Kelvin to fill them. The eager helper starts right away and cuts down everything in the vicinity until the stands are full of logs.
If you now build a zipline that leads to your base, you can comfortably use it to send the logs from your outpost to the base.
