Sony’s PlayStation 5 is now readily available – and this is also reflected in the sales figures, which have now broken another milestone.
For months, the PlayStation 5 was hard to come by due to supply chain issues and ultimately manageable production volumes. In the meantime, however, the situation has noticeably improved and anyone who wants to buy a Sony console can usually do so without any problems.
This can now also be seen from the financial report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, in the context of which specific figures were announced. The sales figures for the PlayStation 5 increased by a whopping 66 percent in the past year compared to the previous year and amounted to 19.1 million copies. In the fourth quarter alone, growth was 215 percent and 6.3 million consoles were sold in absolute terms. In total, the PS5 has already sold over 38.5 million copies.
Sony was able to increase sales by a total of 16 percent year-on-year to around 85 billion dollars. The Game and Network Services segment, which includes the PlayStation brand, saw a 33 percent increase to $26.5 billion.
PlayStation Plus subscribers remained stable at 47.4 million, but Sony saw significantly more active PlayStation users overall, with monthly active users increasing by 2 million to 108 million.
