While Sony continues to remain silent, the rumor mill about a possible PS5 Pro continues to simmer. Industry insider Jeff Grubb once again wants to know more than the rest of the world.
There are already myths and legends surrounding the PS5 Pro, as always when no one actually knows anything for sure. Just a few days ago, potential hardware specs for a PS5 Pro were leaked online, promising not much, but at least slightly more performance than the original (if the specs are accurate).
Well-known industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb has now spoken out and wants to have more information up his sleeve. On his Game Mess podcast, Grubb confirmed the aforementioned leak and explained that the specs in question are “based on a number of possibilities because they’re not fully developed yet.”
Perhaps more exciting is that the PS5 Pro is said to support a proprietary supersampling technology, something similar to DLSS or FSR, to ensure higher frame rates and therefore better use of ray tracing. Which is actually a bit surprising, because the PS5 relies on an AMD solution in terms of CPU/GPU anyway and games could, at least theoretically, also use AMD’s FSR technology and that wouldn’t necessarily rule out the frame generation called FMF.
Grubb also wants to know a possible release period for the PS5 Pro. It is therefore likely that the new console variant will appear in September 2024. An announcement would therefore probably be in the second quarter at the latest. Previous reports mentioned November 2024. We won’t know for sure until Sony officially announces the console.
