We all know that the Playstation 5 is quite a suitcase. A YouTuber has now proven that it can be much smaller by converting the console – albeit with a small catch.
The Playstation 5 isn’t exactly a sleek little console. That won’t change unless Sony pulls a PS5 Slim out of the drawer at some point. The tech channel DIY Perks didn’t want to wait that long and converted a PS5 on their own initiative and it was worth it, because the result is no longer 19 mm thick.
This exercise was successful by replacing some extensive components. Among other things, the massive heat sink was thrown out and replaced by a water channel system with a copper block. In addition, the power supply was removed from the case and replaced by an external power supply – okay, that could be called “cheating” a little.
The conversion doesn’t seem to have been cheap, the copper parts alone cost 240 US dollars. It was still worth it – the “new” console is only 1.9 cm thick and the cooling is even more powerful than the original.
