And the PS5 rumor mill continues to simmer: the supposed Pro model is now also the subject of a leak that could reveal fresh technical details and possible release planning!
While Xbox boss Phil Spencer has stressed in the past that Microsoft has no plans to update the Xbox Series X/S in the middle of the console cycle, things are very different at Sony. For weeks and months there have been speculations and insider reports about a more powerful Pro model that could be planned for a later date next to the new Slim version this year.
Just that Pro model is now the subject of rumors again, because KeyToGaming now has possible new details ready, citing its own anonymous sources. Accordingly, Sony has been developing the PlayStation 5 Pro since around the beginning of 2022 under the internal project name “Trinity”. That would suit Sony well, as the company had used working names related to the cult flick The Matrix in the past. The PS4 Pro was known internally as “Neo” at the time, while PlayStation VR was known as “Morpheus”.
Sony is already said to be holding the first demo events for the new PS5 Pro. It also says that the majority of the developer studios should be equipped with the appropriate dev kits by the end of November 2023.
As far as the specifications of the more powerful console variant are concerned, information is said to be rather difficult to get to date. According to the sources, Trinity gets at least 30 WGP (Workgroup Processor) and 18000 MT/s memory. The bottom line is that the more powerful console is targeting an improved and more stable frame rate at 4K resolution, but will also offer a performance mode for 8K resolutions. In addition, faster ray tracing is targeted with the platform.
Last but not least, it says Sony is targeting a November 2024 release for the PS5 Pro, which would fit previous speculation on the subject. Afterwards, Sony PlayStation will say goodbye to the current generation in terms of development and concentrate fully on the PlayStation 6, which is currently planned for 2028.
It remains to be seen whether this inside information will ultimately prove to be accurate. We will keep you up to date and will of course also report as soon as there is official information from Sony.
