Despite all the delivery bottlenecks, Sony is still on the road to success with its PlayStation 5: The console has now cracked another milestone in terms of sales figures.
Opposite the industry magazine GI.biz Sony has now commented again on its current PlayStation 5 console and also confirmed fresh sales figures. “We are pleased to announce that Sony Interactive Entertainment has sold more than 20 million PS5 consoles worldwide,” said Veronica Rogers, SIE’s SVP Head of Global Sales and Business Operations.
For the coming year, Sony expects PS5 sales to surpass those of the PlayStation 4 at the same point in its life cycle. In this respect, the PS5 is doing well, but has not met Sony’s high expectations due to the prevailing supply bottlenecks.
When announcing the business figures for the past fiscal year as of March 31, 2022, Sony confirmed that around 11.5 million copies were sold in that fiscal year. 14.8 million PS5 sales were expected in advance, but the chip bottlenecks prevented that.
That’s why Rogers also addresses all fans who are still waiting for a PS5 with another statement: “To all fans who haven’t been able to get their hands on a console yet, we want to say that we are planning PS5 production in ramping up significantly this year and that we’re working tirelessly to ensure everyone can have a PS5 who wants one.”
