The next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X are expected to be available for Christmas 2020, but of course this takes a lot of lead time. Is the corona virus in China possibly causing a postponement of the planned release dates?

As is well known, Sony and Microsoft are already working on their next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X, both of which should be available in the Christmas season 2020. Neither company has yet given specific start dates, but the internal planning to date may have to be adjusted due to the corona virus.
Recently, Nintendo had to move the switch hardware bundle to the new Animal Crossing because the production facilities in China have been shut down due to the quarantine related to the virus. If this persists, Sony and Microsoft could also be affected. At least that's what the financial service provider Jefferies Group suspects, who has spoken up in an economic magazine with an assessment.
The experts show that Sony and Microsoft also rely primarily on China when it comes to the production of the two next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X. Accordingly, the release plans of the two consoles could still change if the production facilities to contain the virus were to remain closed for a longer period. Incidentally, this could also affect Apple, as far as the production and release of the next iPhone this year is concerned.
The manufacturing sector in China is particularly affected by the outbreak of the corona virus. The iPhone manufacturer Foxconn, for example, has quarantined its employees; directly from suppliers, it is said to the Nikkei Asian Review
The analysts therefore assume that PS5 and Xbox Series X production could also be delayed "if the shutdowns exceed one month". Even if Sony and Microsoft were to keep their schedules, it could mean significantly lower numbers of consoles at launch, it continues.
