According to a new report from the renowned news magazine Bloomberg, Sony has actually started work on a new PlayStation handheld.
When new technical details about the PlayStation 6 became known recently, there were increasing signs that Sony could actually be working on a new handheld. One could therefore follow in the footsteps of PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita. These speculations are now receiving new fuel!
The renowned and usually very well-informed news magazine Bloomberg reports that Sony has actually started work on such a new handheld; This should then be able to play PS5 games natively on the go. The new hardware is not another remote player like the PlayStation Portal.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the new report states that development work on a handheld has started, but the release of the platform is still a few years away. Accordingly, Sony could also decide to pull the plug and possibly not put the platform on the market.
However, Sony basically wants to go this route for good reasons. With a PlayStation handheld, the aim is to break Nintendo's dominance in this sector and keep away emerging new competition in the form of Microsoft. After all, Microsoft is not only working on a new Xbox home console, but also on an Xbox handheld. The latter is also said to be a few years away.
