game console Already got it fire escape studioa development team working on an unannounced multiplayer game.
Back in 2021, PlayStation announced that it would release a game from Firewalk Studios, which at the time was a subsidiary of ProbablyMonsters. Now, PlayStation has fully acquired the developer, as it announced in a PlayStation Blog post earlier this week. If you haven’t heard of Firewalk Studios, that’s okay because it hasn’t actually released a game since its founding in 2018. Although the main focus appears to be multiplayer, as that’s what the team is currently working on. The addition of PlayStation’s Firewalk Studios makes it the 20th first-party studio the company now has.
“Since announcing our publishing partnerships with ProbablyMonsters and Firewalk in 2021, we continue to be impressed by the team’s ambition to create modern multiplayer games that connect players in innovative ways,” PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst wrote in a blog post. The studio shares our passion for creating inspiring worlds grounded in exceptional gameplay, and we want to continue investing in their mission. We are delighted that Firewalk is bringing their technical and creative expertise to PlayStation Studios to help grow our live Service operations and something really special for gamers.”
Firewalk Studios is led by Tony Hsu, Ryan Ellis, and Elena Siegman, all of whom have worked at Bungie on games such as Destiny, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Mass Effect, and Halo.
“Today we took the natural step of joining PlayStation Studios,” Hsu and Ellis wrote in a joint statement. “We’ve worked closely with Hermen and the incredibly talented team at PlayStation over the years to help make our new games even better. Joining PlayStation Studios is the age to officially become a part of the family that has produced many of our most legendary games, We are honored.”
Perhaps with this announcement and a game that’s been in development for five years, we might hear about it soon. Considering Sony plans to release 10 live-service games by 2026, and this could be one of them, you’d think we’d see something in the relatively near future.
