It’s amazing how many people still remember the late 1990s, or are so passionate about a time when they were just a twinkle in their father’s eye or a real fetus. PlayStation has released the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Edition. This is your chance to try to own a retro-painted version of the base PS5 or PS5 Pro, which everyone agrees are a bit expensive, plus some cool accessories/parts.

However, if you buy it after it goes on sale on November 21 (pre-orders start on September 26), you must always play PlayStation’s rather interesting 30th Anniversary Edition playlist when it comes to using new and retro technology. Come on, Livin’ La Vida Loca is waiting for you. I don’t make the rules.

“The new limited edition design pays homage to 30 years of great gaming, a journey made possible by the passion and support of our fans and talented game developers,” PlayStation wrote in a blog about the series. “This limited edition harkens back to the launch of the first PlayStation console on December 3, 1994, taking the original PlayStation color design and bringing it to the latest PS5 hardware lineup.”

The retro hardware is split into two main bundles that will be sold in “extremely limited supply,” with one centered around a regular digital PS5 and the other around a PS5 Pro, both of which take you back in time with a bit of grey paint and some classic PlayStation logos to remind you what you’ve lost over time, plus some beautifully engraved parts to enhance the “I bought a collector’s item” feeling.

Both bundles come with a vertical stand and a matching DualSense controller or DualSense Edge controller and a DualSense charging station, but no disc drive, as you have to buy that separately. You’ll also get the following collectibles:

  • Original PlayStation controller style cable connector housing
  • Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
  • Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)

Just 12,300 Retro Edition PS5 Pros will be sold worldwide, and in case you didn’t think this set was collectible enough, each one will be engraved with a “limited edition number” that symbolizes the “month and day the first PlayStation console was released.” Prices for these products have yet to be confirmed, but I’d bet they’ll cost more than £5/$5.
