After the immense success of the Xbox Game Pass, Sony is said to be working on a competitor for its PlayStation platforms. A well-known insider is now revealing the current status and what the Project Spartacus-titled project could look like in the end.
Sony is said to be working internally on a competitor to the Xbox Game Pass, which is currently called Project Spartacus. With Jeff Grubb, a very well-known insider has once again commented on this and given details of the current planning status.
Accordingly, Sony probably wants to rebuild PlayStation Plus in this context and ultimately offer three different price levels. So in the United States, prices could live at $10, $13, or $16 per month.
The most affordable Essential Tier is basically meant to be what PlayStation Plus is today. Here players will have access to multiplayer games and a smaller collection of monthly full versions at no extra charge, which you can play as long as you have a subscription.
For $13 you should also get access to a games catalog analogous to the Xbox Game Pass. This could be, for example, a line-up as available via PlayStation Now – just without cloud requirements or access.
The $16 premium tier would then also include cloud streaming of PS Now on top, as well as Game Trials of the latest top titles. The latter feature should be comparable to the trials at EA Play, so it would give you limited access to the latest titles for a few hours so that you can see them for yourself. Additionally, this tier might also provide access to a special lineup of classic games.
Sony has not yet officially confirmed the service; that could be an issue in the supposedly planned State of Play in March. We’ll keep you up to date!
