PlayStation Stars just launched in Asia, but some players are unhappy that top members are said to be getting “priority” support.
First announced in July, PlayStation Stars is now launching in Asia this week, with confirmation that the loyalty program will be coming to North America and Europe in October. However, according to VGC, the top members of the program are considered a priority when it comes to customer support, but many players are not happy with that.
PlayStation Stars apparently has a four-tier system where players can progress by purchasing games and winning trophies. The fourth and highest tier requires you to purchase four full-priced games on PlayStation and accumulate 128 rare trophies. If players manage to do this, they’ll get a souvenir collectible, and according to Sony, “level 4 players” will “get priority in the chat order” when contacting PlayStation Customer Support.
Japanese website Automaton pointed out the bonus on twitter, many Twitter users expressed disappointment. “Customer support has to be equal,” Twitter user said Mustaro (Translated by VGC). “Some people just like a few games and play them, and some gamers can’t afford the money or time.”
Another twitter user, yossy_44saying they “don’t think prioritizing customer support is a good idea. I bought a PS5 for Final Fantasy 16 – can someone like that be put aside for a while?”
If you haven’t heard of PlayStation Stars before this, it’s a new loyalty program from Sony that offers players two types of rewards. Players earn loyalty points, which they can then use to fund PSN wallets, digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products. These digital collectibles are other things players can earn by completing various activities and activities (they’re not NFTs, don’t worry).
