The rumors they were sounding very loud during the last days and finally Sony has just confirmed the news officially: PS3, PSP and PS Vita digital stores to close forever this summer. This means that you will no longer be able to access any of them in any way. In fact, this morning they have closed their respective web pages.
The closing of the PlayStation Store will be effective on all three consoles on different dates depending on the platform. In the case of PS3 and PSP it will be the next July 2nd of 2021, while the closure on PS Vita will occur a little later, the August 27.
At this point one of the questions that many of you will ask yourself is what will happen to the games you have purchased? Well, the good news is that they will not be affected by this measure. Therefore any content that you have linked to your account will remain yours to download it again at any time from the Downloads menu of each console.
In the same way you can continue accessing all videos or other digital content that you have bought at any time. On the other hand, what will be lost is the possibility of acquiring video games or other products that are in stores, just as internal purchases cannot be made in titles that have any option in this regard.
On the other hand, the money you have in your account cannot be used on the three Sony consoles either and it will only be used for future purchases that you carry out on both PS4 and PS5. In the case of those who do not have these last two consoles, the money will remain stored in the account and a refund can be requested so as not to lose it and that no one is left without it.
In the statement issued by Sony, it indicates that the reason for making this decision is because it wants to focus all your resources on improving the quality of the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5. So at this point, maybe it would be a good time for you to take a look at our list of Recommended PS3, PSP and PS Vita video games in case you dare to get hold of any of them before it’s too late.
