The PlayStation VR 2 VR headset has been available for the PlayStation 5 for almost exactly a year now. In the future, the good piece could also work in the context of the PC and expand the user base. Sony is currently considering appropriate steps.
With the PlayStation VR 2, Sony is known to be launching its own virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5, drawing you much deeper into virtual worlds and games. In the future, this could also be the case on the PC, because the company says it is currently examining ways to allow players to use the VR headset on PCs. This could also open up new user groups for the hardware platform, which is currently PS5-exclusive.
PSVR 2 was originally launched in February 2023 and is a PS5-based successor to the original PlayStation VR, which was previously released for the PlayStation 4. The new VR headset represents a significant hardware upgrade over the previous generation and positioned itself as a competitor to newer virtual reality hardware such as the Meta Quest 3. However, sales of Sony’s peripheral fell rather short of expectations – the PC Sprung should now provide a breath of fresh air here.
Test runs are currently underway to ensure that PSVR 2 can also be used on the PC and then also with games available there. Virtual reality players would suddenly have access to a whole range of other games. A corresponding update with PC compatibility could be released in 2024.
The corresponding announcement was made in a new entry on the PlayStation Blog, which incidentally focused primarily on upcoming PSVR 2 games. Among other things, a free update for the zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine 2, the city builder Little Cities: Bigger! or the magic-focused action game The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood.
The virtual reality market has developed continuously for years, but has essentially remained a niche market. Can Sony bring some new life to this by making the PSVR 2 compatible with the PC?
