Due to technical deficiencies that are sometimes difficult to excuse, Days Gone did not achieve the commercial success expected. Sony, on the other hand, seems ready to give it a second chance.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was proudly announced ahead of the PS5 Pro’s release and is generating a lot of buzz. Although this new version of the game seems to really benefit from the various graphical and technical changes, some players complain about Sony’s strategy for this generation. Many criticize the brand for relying too much on remasters and other remakes instead of releasing new exclusives. 2025 should correct the situation, especially with the arrival of Ghost of Yotei, if according to the latest news, Marvel’s Wolverine is still scheduled for that date. However, Sony isn’t done dusting off its previous-gen catalog just yet, and Days Gone could benefit from that.
The return of Days Gone is still confirmed
As a specialist in porting PS5 games to the PC, Nixxes is on the rise. PlayStation Studios has been tasked with bringing Horizon Zero Dawn up to date, and the work done may be more significant than we think. If we have to wait until the end of the month to know whether such a remaster is justified, the developers shouldn’t stop there. On LinkedIn, one of the studio employees casually announced that Aloy’s adventures were just the beginning. Further remasters of this size would then be in preparation at Nixxes Software, and there is no shortage of candidates. We can already see some candles being lit for Bloodborne, which is eagerly awaiting a PS5 and PC release. On the other hand, it would be more Days Gone that we should watch.
Rumors of a remaster grew louder as “State of Play” got closer. Several supposedly reliable sources, including Jeff Grubb and VGC, actually confirm that a certain Days Gone Remastered was in the pipeline and ready to be announced. Nixxes seems ideally suited to give the zombie game the revamp it desperately needed upon release, especially now that Bluepoint is now prioritizing its own games. Bend Studio’s title is actually one of those games that divided opinion when it was released, but evoked real sympathy among players. Days Gone wasn’t a bad game per se, but its obvious technical flaws severely detracted from the gaming experience. A small facelift and various improvements certainly wouldn’t be too much, but we should wait for an official announcement on how much it could be changed.
Hope for a sequel?
Although it’s widely known that PlayStation has shelved Days Gone 2, the company seems determined to give the license a second chance. In addition to this potential remaster, the publisher has ordered a film and Sam Heughan from the Outlander series is reportedly set to play Deacon St. John. If it is successful this time, Sony could finally review its position regarding a possible sequel. From here on, an acknowledgment from Days Gone Remastered, the condition remains in effect.
