The Pokémon Company announces a new Pokemon collaboration that could melt fans. The problem is that the release is still a long way off.
Creatures from The Pokémon Company are everywhere! In the video game with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, in the cinema with Detective Pikachu, on the small screen with the Netflix series The Pokémon Receptionist, on trading cards etc. The cult franchise is inexhaustible and the recent success of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is proof for that. But you haven't seen everything yet, as this mysterious announcement appears to have just teased a new movie or series.
Will Pokémon return to the big or small screen… in 2027?
The Pokémon Company and Aardman, a British animation studio, announce a collaboration. If the name Aardman doesn't mean anything to you, you probably know their productions. chicken coop, Wallace and Gromit or Shaun the sheepwere created by these experts in stop-motion animation films using clay figures. « It's a dream collaboration for Pokemon. The members of the Aardman studio have mastered their craft to perfection and we were impressed by their talent and creativity. The project we have been working on will delight Pokémon fans around the world » said Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing and media at The Pokémon Company International.
Heading towards a stop-motion Pokémon movie or a stop-motion series with modeling clay creatures? The two companies do not go into details of their partnership. But with the teaser showing a Poké Ball in this footage and the Aardman CV, we're well on our way to seeing Pikachu, Bulbasaur and others in a plasticine version. And then this wouldn't be a first for the video game license. In 2023, an animated series The Receptionist Pokemon was released on Netflix, with some models made from plasticine.
« It's a true privilege to bring the characters and world of Pokémon to life in new ways. Combining Pokémon, the world's most valuable entertainment brand, with our love of crafting, character creation and humorous storytelling is incredibly exciting » added Sean Clarke, CEO of Aardman. Whether it's a Pokémon movie or a Pokémon series, you have to wait. As stated in the tweet below, this project will not be released until 2027.
